Identity & basics

• Photo ID
• Social Security numbers / ITINs for everyone on the return
• Prior-year return, if available

Income documents

• W-2s
• 1099s, including NEC, INT, DIV, R, G, and related forms
• K-1s for partnerships, S-corps, trusts, or estates

Deductions & credits

• Mortgage interest, Form 1098
• Property tax records
• Charitable contribution receipts
• Childcare statements
• Education costs, including 1098-T
• Medical expenses, if itemizing

Small business / self-employed

• Income records and expense categories
• Mileage logs and vehicle expenses
• Home office details, if applicable
• 1099s issued to contractors, if applicable
